Short answer: WoW Forever launches with a brand-new economy where nobody has gold yet. The players who come out ahead are the ones who gather while they level, sell raw materials to everyone rushing their professions, save for their first mount instead of spending early, and are ready with consumables when the first raids open. Auction house flipping comes later, once you have capital and prices settle.

What is WoW Forever?

World of Warcraft: Forever is Blizzard's new, permanent take on the original Azeroth, running alongside modern WoW and Classic. It is set after the Forsaken Kingdom campaign for Warcraft III: Reforged and before Molten Core, on the original continents, with a level cap of 60. It adds a new playable race, the Skyborne, who start on Zephras Isle, along with new zones, quests, and dungeons. It launches on November 4, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. PST and is included with a WoW subscription or Game Time.

The beta ran from September 17 to October 23. Characters were capped at level 20, then 30 from October 1, so nothing from level 31 to 60 and no raids were tested. Beta progress did not carry over, so everything below is about the live game: plan with what was seen in the beta, and confirm prices on your own auction house once the game is out.

How the WoW Forever economy works

Two things shape gold in Forever. First, it is a fresh economy: on launch day nobody has gold, every profession is at skill 1, and gold enters the game mainly through quest rewards and items sold to vendors. Trading on the auction house only moves that gold between players. Second, according to developer interviews reported by the press, there is no WoW Token, so gold has to be earned in the game or traded between players.

Characters choose a ruleset: Normal, PvP, Role-Play, or Roleplay-PvP, which Blizzard added for launch. Blizzard describes the servers as "megarealms" built for large populations, so expect busy markets. Prices can still differ between rulesets and factions, so compare what you see on your own auction house rather than relying on someone else's numbers.

Professions in WoW Forever

Forever uses the original professions. Each character can learn two primary professions, and the secondary ones (Cooking, First Aid, and Fishing) can all be learned on top. The skill cap is 300, trained in four tiers (Apprentice, Journeyman, Expert, Artisan), each with a minimum character level.

  • Gathering: Herbalism, Mining, and Skinning. Early starting-zone quests offer a manual that teaches one of them and gives a few extra skill points.
  • Crafting: Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking, and Tailoring. All of them get new recipes in Forever, so your profession matters from low levels.
  • New systems: each profession has camp objects you can place at a campfire for buffs, the Legacy talents include a professions tree, and reagent bags have their own equipment slot.

Gold while leveling

  • Take at least one gathering profession. On a fresh server, crafters level their professions all at once and need herbs, ore, and leather in bulk, so raw materials sell well in the first weeks. Two gathering professions (for example Skinning and Herbalism) is the simplest way to earn while you level.
  • Loot and vendor everything. Grey items, cloth you won't use, and unwanted drops are one of the main ways new gold enters the game. Check what an item is worth on the auction house before you vendor it.
  • Learn the secondary professions. Cooking and First Aid use materials you pick up anyway, and Fishing gives you something to sell when you're waiting for a group.
  • Save for your mount. Postpone expensive purchases until level 60. Quest rewards replace leveling gear quickly, so buying it is rarely worth the gold.
  • Park a bank alt in a capital city. It stores your materials and lets you check and post auctions without taking your main out of the world.

Gold-making methods that work here

Selling gathered materials

The most reliable early income. Sell when crafters are online, usually in the evening, and post in sensible stack sizes. Gathering professions also feed camp buffs and other new recipes in Forever, so a material that looks cheap at first can gain value once more players reach the recipes that need it.

Waylaid Supplies

The Waylaid Supplies system from Season of Discovery returns. You fill supply crates with items, many of them crafted or gathered, and turn them in for Merchant's Favor and other rewards, including profession recipes. The materials those crates ask for tend to be in demand, which is worth watching whether you fill crates yourself or sell the materials to players who do.

Crafting consumables

Blizzard's roadmap puts the first raids, the Barrow Deeps (10 players) and Hyjal Summit (20 players), on December 9. Raiders need potions, food, bandages, and other consumables every week. Alchemists, cooks, and anyone with First Aid can stock up beforehand and post the night before and on raid nights, when demand is highest.

Auction house flipping

Buy items listed well below their usual price and relist them at market value. In a young economy prices swing a lot, which creates opportunities but also makes it easy to overpay. Only flip items you understand, and count the auction house deposit and cut in your margin before you buy.

Best profession pairs for gold

  • Skinning + Herbalism: two gathering professions, no setup, steady income while leveling.
  • Herbalism + Alchemy: herbs feed your own potions, which sell best around raid nights.
  • Skinning + Leatherworking: Leatherworking received the largest set of new recipes in the beta, and you gather your own leather.
  • Mining + Blacksmithing or Engineering: ore for your own crafts, with any surplus sold to other crafters.
  • Tailoring + Enchanting: cloth drops while you quest; disenchant crafts that don't sell.

A daily routine that adds up

  1. Check prices for the materials and goods you sell, and relist anything that was undercut.
  2. Gather along your leveling route instead of making separate trips.
  3. Vendor greys and junk before your bags fill up, and send materials to your bank alt.
  4. Once you're close to raid content, craft consumables early in the week and post them before raid nights.

Common beginner mistakes

  • Taking two crafting professions with no gatherer, then buying every material.
  • Buying leveling gear or other expensive items before level 60.
  • Treating gathered materials as free. If a craft only breaks even at zero material cost, sell the materials instead.
  • Vendoring items without checking what they sell for on the auction house.
  • Copying prices from guides or other rulesets instead of checking your own market.

Time vs. reward

WoW Forever has not been live long enough for anyone to quote reliable gold-per-hour numbers, and the beta never went past level 30. Early on, gathering and vendoring pay the most for the least risk because they need no capital. Crafting and flipping pay more later, once you know your market. Write down what each activity actually earns you for a week or two, keep the one or two that carry your income, and re-check when the first raids open on December 9.

FAQ

What is WoW Forever?
World of Warcraft: Forever is a new, permanent version of the original Azeroth from Blizzard, with a level 60 cap, a new playable race (the Skyborne), and new zones, quests, and dungeons. It launches on November 4, 2026, and is included with a WoW subscription or Game Time.
Does gold from the WoW Forever beta carry over?
No. Beta progress was temporary and did not carry over to launch, so every character and every economy starts from zero on November 4.
What's the fastest way to make gold in WoW Forever?
Early on, take two gathering professions or a gathering and crafting pair, loot and vendor everything, and sell raw materials to players leveling their professions. Once you have some capital, crafting consumables ahead of raid nights and flipping underpriced items on the auction house usually pay more per hour.
Is there a WoW Token in WoW Forever?
According to Blizzard developer interviews reported by the press, WoW Forever has no WoW Token, so gold comes only from playing the game and trading with other players.
