Short answer: Mists of Pandaria Classic rewards players who log in every day. The best steady gold comes from daily profession cooldowns (Imperial Silk, Transmute: Living Steel, Scroll of Wisdom), backed up by gathering Pandaria materials, selling consumables before raid nights, and, for patient players, glyphs and Darkmoon trinkets. Alts multiply all of it.
How the MoP Classic economy works
Mists of Pandaria Classic raises the level cap to 90 and professions to 600 (Zen Master, which you can train from level 80). Much of the expansion's crafting is time-gated: key materials come from once-a-day cooldowns, and some of the best recipes sit behind reputations such as the Golden Lotus and the August Celestials. That has two effects on gold. First, the players who use their cooldowns every day, on several characters, control a lot of supply. Second, gold made this way is slow but very reliable, which suits players with short daily sessions.
Mists of Pandaria Classic is released in phases, and each new raid tier raises demand for flasks, potions, gems, and enchants. The methods below work in every phase; what changes is which items are worth the most on your realm, so check the auction house before committing.
Gold while leveling (85-90)
- Pick up a gathering profession. Ghost Iron Ore, Pandaria herbs such as Green Tea Leaf, and Exotic Leather all sell to crafters. Warcraft Tavern suggests Skinning as a second gathering profession because, unlike Herbalism and Mining, it doesn't compete for your minimap tracking.
- Keep your Windwool Cloth. It drops from humanoids across Pandaria and feeds Tailoring and First Aid.
- Start Sunsong Ranch early. You can begin the farm at level 85 (see below), so it is worth setting up before you hit 90.
- Don't buy leveling gear. Quest rewards replace it within a zone or two.
Daily profession cooldowns: the core of MoP gold
Tailoring: Imperial Silk
Imperial Silk is made on a one-day cooldown, and you have to be in the Silken Fields in the Valley of the Four Winds to craft it. It is bind on pickup, so you sell what you make from it rather than the silk itself. The big-ticket item is the Royal Satchel, a bind-on-equip bag that needs 12 Imperial Silk and Exalted with the August Celestials; on the way there, Spellthreads (unlocked at Honored with the Golden Lotus) are a steady seller, though competition is high.
Alchemy: Transmute Living Steel
Transmute: Living Steel turns six Trillium Bars into Living Steel once per day, and Living Steel is needed for many high-end Blacksmithing, Engineering, and Leatherworking recipes. A Transmutation Master gets about a 20% chance of extra yield. Alchemy also supplies the flasks and potions every raider needs: Wowhead's advice is that consumables sell best on the evening of the raid reset and the evening after.
Inscription: Scroll of Wisdom, glyphs, and Darkmoon cards
Scribes have a one-day cooldown that limits their best crafts. It produces a random Darkmoon card each day, and eight different cards make a deck that turns into a Darkmoon trinket. Those trinkets stay in demand longer than usual because Challenge Modes normalize item level, so a strong trinket keeps its value. Scribes also make every shoulder enchant in this expansion and the new Mists of Pandaria glyphs. Glyphs can be very profitable, but they mean a lot of inventory to manage, which is why serious glyph sellers spread their stock across several bank alts.
Jewelcrafting and the gem market
Jewelcrafters prospect Pandaria ore for gems and cut them for raiders, including Jewelcrafter-only gems. Demand spikes whenever a new raid tier opens. Prospecting keeps ore prices up, which is good news for miners too.
Spirit of Harmony
Motes of Harmony build up as you play at max level in Pandaria, and ten combine into a Spirit of Harmony. Spirits are used in many recipes and can be traded at vendors for materials such as Trillium, and Riddle of Steel can be used instead of the Living Steel cooldown for three Spirits of Harmony. Before selling either, compare its price with what it can be turned into on your realm.
Sunsong Ranch: a farm that pays
Speak to Farmer Yoon at Sunsong Ranch in the Valley of the Four Winds to start the farm; you can begin at level 85, but progress stops until level 90. You start with four plots, grow to eight at Honored with the Tillers, and twelve at Revered. Seeds are sold by Merchant Greenfield at Halfhill Market. The farm takes a few minutes a day and yields cooking vegetables (which cooks always need) and other crops, while the Tillers dailies build the reputation that unlocks more plots.
Professions: what to pick
- Herbalism + Alchemy: herbs for flasks and potions, plus the Living Steel cooldown.
- Mining + Jewelcrafting or Blacksmithing: ore for prospecting and smelting, gems or gear to sell.
- Tailoring + Enchanting: Tailoring's cooldown and Spellthreads; Enchanting to disenchant crafts that don't sell.
- Inscription on alts: every scribe adds another card per day, so Inscription scales best with an alt army.
- Skinning + another gathering profession: the lowest-maintenance gold for players who don't want to craft.
A daily routine that adds up
Because so much of Mists of Pandaria Classic is time-gated, a short routine every day beats a long session once a week. A typical one:
- Use every daily profession cooldown you have (Imperial Silk, Living Steel, Scroll of Wisdom) on every character that has them.
- Tend and replant your plots at Sunsong Ranch.
- Check the auction house for the goods you sell and the materials you buy; relist anything that was undercut.
- Spend whatever time is left gathering or doing the dailies you need for reputation-locked recipes.
Most of that takes only minutes per character, which is why alts are so valuable in this expansion. Each alt at level 80 or higher can train Zen Master professions and add another set of cooldowns. Just remember that every alt is also another set of reputations and recipes to unlock, so add them one at a time and make sure each pays for itself.
Auction house tips for MoP Classic
- Know your raid nights. Flasks, potions, food, and gems sell best right before and around the weekly raid reset.
- Check conversions. Many materials can be turned into something else (ore into bars, motes into Spirits, Spirits into materials). Compare the prices before you sell either form.
- Watch for leveling crafts. When lots of players level the same profession, the items they craft flood the market. Buy them cheaply to disenchant, or wait until the flood passes to sell your own.
- Price your time. If a craft only breaks even when your gathered materials are counted as free, sell the materials instead.
Common beginner mistakes
- Forgetting daily cooldowns: a missed day can't be made up later.
- Treating gathered materials as free. They cost your time, so price your crafts accordingly.
- Selling consumables on the wrong day instead of before raid resets.
- Leveling a profession by crafting items that sell for less than the materials, then posting them anyway and crashing the price.
- Selling Motes or Spirits of Harmony without checking what they convert into.
Time vs. reward
MoP Classic gold is less about long farming sessions and more about consistency. A short daily routine of cooldowns, the farm, and a quick auction house check adds up over a phase, and each extra alt multiplies it. Gold per hour varies too much between realms and phases to quote fixed numbers: check your own auction house and price history before you choose.
A useful habit is to write down, for a week or two, what each activity actually earned you and how long it took. Most players find that one or two routines carry most of their income, and that dropping the rest frees up time without costing much gold. Re-check whenever a new phase opens, because demand shifts with each raid tier.
Quick reference: pick a method for your situation
- Fresh 90 with no gold: start Sunsong Ranch, pick up the Golden Lotus and Tillers dailies, and sell whatever you gather along the way. None of it needs starting capital.
- Gathering character: pair Skinning with Mining or Herbalism, sell Ghost Iron Ore, herbs, and leather when crafters are busiest, and bank your Motes of Harmony.
- One main, no alts: choose the cooldown profession whose products sell best on your realm (usually Tailoring or Alchemy), and never miss a day.
- Alt army: Inscription on several characters for Darkmoon cards, plus transmute alts for Living Steel.
- Crafter with capital: flasks, potions, and gems before each raid reset; glyphs if you have the bag space and patience.
- Very little playtime: one cooldown and a farm visit a day is a few minutes and still pays over a phase.
